Both Varsity Boys and Girls teams advance to the second round of the 5A state playoffs with big wins in the opening round. On Friday night, the Boys stunned the Region 8 #1 seed Johnson High with a 2-1 victory on the road. The Knights came out strong in the opening minutes of the game pressuring Johnson’s defense. Freshman Keven Dorcinvil came up with a goal to put Grady up 1-0. After a controversial off sides call, Johnson scored to tie the game at 1-1 with minutes left in the first half. Grady fought hard the second half to force the game into overtime. Once again, freshman Keven Dorcinvil found the net after a well-placed pass from sophomore Nathanial Ward. Keeper Jack Hudson and the Grady back line of Erik Tischer, Caleb Weinstock, Nicho Cucchi and Christian Briggs played a solid defensive game to help clinch the victory!
The Girls also secured their ticket to the second round of state playoffs with a 3-0 win over Region 8 #3 seed Loganville on Thursday night at Grady Stadium. Captains’ Courtney Martin and Lily Soto each found the net while freshman Imani Pittman scored her first state playoff goal. Keeper Maggie Francis and defenders Mia Wood, Tabby Hatem, Lena Brown and Anna Tischer fought hard to shut out Loganville.
The girls are back in action on Tuesday, May 2, when they take on Region 4 #1 seed Eagles Landing at Eagles Landing. The boys travel to Henry County to take on Dutchtown High on Wednesday, May 3.
Congratulations to our Grady Knights!
