The Varsity Boys and Girls teams kicked off regular season play with sweeps of Pace and Paideia. The teams started the week traveling to Pace on Tuesday night. Despite having several players out with illness, the Grady Varsity Boys dominated Pace with multiple attempts at the goal and a strong defense. A header by Senior Alex Westin put Grady on top with a 1-0 win. The Girls came out equally strong with a commanding 4-0 shutout of Pace led by goals from Junior Captain Courtney Martin; Sophomores Maya Hadley and Kaitlin Pailian; and Freshman Elise Isakov.
The Varsity Boys dealt rival Paideia their first loss of the season with a 3-1 win in the home game opener on Saturday night. Sophomores Keven Dorcinvil, Aldian Havoli and Senior Joe Norman put Grady on top with goals. Senior Captain and Keeper Jack Hudson and Grady’s strong defensive line led by Senior Captain Caleb Weinstock and Junior Nicho Cucchi held Paideia’s strong offense at bay. Hudson earlier in the week signed his letter of intent to play with the University of Kentucky Men’s Soccer Program next year.
The Varsity Girls extended their winning streak over Paideia in front of a home crowd. Maya Hadley and Courtney Martin each scored their second goals of regular season play to lead Grady to a 2-0 shutout of Pace. A strong defensive showing led by Junior Captains Lena Brown and Anna Tischer and Freshman Keeper Ansley Gerretzen helped keep Paideia scoreless.
The Varsity teams are back in action this week when they take on Drew at Grady Stadium on Tuesday night. The girls play at 5:30 and the boys at 7:30pm.
The JV Boys team kicks off their season against Jackson High on Monday night at 5:30pm at Grady Stadium.
