Girls Varsity Volleyball · Stein Hired to Lead Volleyball Program

The Grady Athletic Department is excited to announce the hiring of Sandi Stein as Head Varsity Volleyball coach. Coach Stein comes to Grady after serving since 2013 as the head coach at Whitewater High School. In addition to leading the volleyball program at Grady, she will also teach P.E. full-time at the school. Stein holds a B.S. in Physical Education from Troy State University and an Master’s in Education from the University of South Alabama.

In Coach Stein’s seven seasons at Whitewater she led the Wildcats to the State Playoffs every year (including 3rd place finishes in 2016-2018 and a State Finals appearance last season) and was named GACA Coach of the Year in 2016. In addition to her time at Whitewater and other years of high school experience, Coach Stein was a Division 1 Head Volleyball Coach for ten seasons at Nicholls State University and Georgia State University.

“I’m very excited about coming to Grady because it’s a quality school,  it’s in my home community, and because of the potential I see in the volleyball program,” said Coach Stein. “I loved my family at Whitewater but felt it was time for a new adventure.  I had always said that the only place I would leave WHS for would be Grady. When the opportunity presented itself,  I felt it was God’s way of telling me this is where I belong!”

Last season the Knights battled back from a 1-11 start to the year to finish 18-23 overall and 5-2 in Region 6AAAAA play, earning the #3 seed out of the region behind Riverwood and Decatur. They fell in the first round of the GHSA State Tournament to Loganville but won the Atlanta Public Schools Tournament in September and finished third in Sandy Creek’s Pinkout Tournament. The Knights lost senior starters Lucy Bertsch and Sadie Mothershed but should return a strong group of Varsity contributors and JV newcomers in 2020. Region 6AAAAA will also have a new look as Banneker, Carver, Decatur, and Riverwood are replaced by Chapel Hill, New Manchester, and Villa Rica.
