The Varsity Baseball team took two out of three games last week against Maynard Jackson to win the series and put itself in control of its own destiny for a top-four region finish and spot in the GHSA State Playoffs later this month. The Knights won on Tuesday night at Walden Athletic Complex behind four hits from sophomore Forrest Lietz, including a home run in the fifth inning. The Jaguars evened the series at 1-1 with a win of their own in Game 1 on Friday night, but Grady won the second game of the doubleheader at Maynard Jackson 7-4. Senior Christian Smith drove in four runs on two home runs to lead the way in the victory, and sophomore Zach Posel earned the win for the Knights, allowing only two hits and three runs in 6 2/3 innings while striking out 12.
Grady’s Region 6-AAAAA record currently stands at 6-6, trailing Villa Rica (11-1) and North Springs (9-1) but ahead of Chapel Hill (5-5), Maynard Jackson (5-8), New Manchester (4-9), and Lithia Springs (0-10). The Knights are off for Spring Break but will resume region competition next week against the two remaining teams on their region schedule, New Manchester and Lithia Springs.
